Enugu Ex-Deputy Governor: “Village Boys won’t intimidate us”

2026-02-24 - 18:37

By Dennis Agbo The immediate past deputy governor of Enugu State, Mrs. Cecilia Ezeilo, has dismissed the threat posed by the formation of the so-called “Village Boys” by opposition political groups. The “Village Boys” is a support group under the Obident movement, backing Mr. Peter Obi, a presidential aspirant of the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The group was created to counter the “City Boys Movement,” a campaign team supporting President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Speaking on Tuesday during a courtesy visit by the Asiwaju Renewed Mandate South East (ARMSE) in Enugu, Ezeilo said the people of Enugu State would not be intimidated by political maneuvers from opposition groups. She emphasised that Governor Peter Mbah deserves a second term based on his performance in infrastructure, health, and education. “This visit shows that your group wants to appreciate justice and you should keep it up. Nobody will intimidate us with the Village Boys,” Ezeilo said. ARMSE leader Denge Josef Onoh highlighted the importance of the Enugu East zone retaining the governorship in line with zonal rotation and warned against electing a governor outside the region, citing potential disruption of the state’s political balance. He added, “We are part of the City Boys and we are also Village Boys. We are for equity, justice, and fairness. We look at the benefit of democracy for humanity,” while urging support for Governor Mbah’s reelection.
