By Omeiza Ajayi ABUJA: The Federal Capital Territory FCT Command of the Federal Fire Service FFS, has placed its personnel on high alert, declaring a “no holiday” policy for firefighters to ensure the safety of lives and property throughout the Eid-il-Fitr celebrations. In a statement released on Thursday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SF Anyam Barnabas, the Controller of the FCT Command, Mohammed Suleiman Anas, emphasized that as an essential service provider, the FFS remains fully operational regardless of public holidays. During a pre-festive station commanders’ briefing, Controller Anas directed all station commanders to ensure maximum personnel presence and to verify that all fire trucks and rescue equipment are in peak condition for rapid intervention. He made it clear that the Service does not observe holidays due to the nature of its mandate, ensuring a 24-hour readiness to combat emergencies across the Federal Capital Territory. “The Service provides essential services and, therefore, does not go on holidays,” Anas stated, reinforcing that the command is prepared to respond to any emergency in any part of the Federal Capital Territory. While congratulating the Muslim faithful on the completion of Ramadan, the Controller warned that festive seasons often see an uptick in fire-triggering activities. He urged residents to exercise heightened safety consciousness and ensure basic fire safety compliance. “Turn off electrical equipment when leaving the house, do not leave cooking unattended, and avoid fireworks, among others,” he advised. Anas encouraged residents to keep the Federal Fire Service emergency numbers readily available. In the event of a fire or any related emergency, the public is advised to contact the FCT Command immediately at 08032003557.
