Disregard misleading narratives on PDP leadership, Wike-backed committee tells members

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike-backed National Caretaker Working Committee (NCWC) of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on party members to disregard claims or misleading narratives on the party’s leadership. The NCWC National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed, stated this on Sunday in Abuja at a news conference to address recent developments concerning the status of the party’s leadership and its forthcoming national convention. Mohammed said that the judgments of the Federal High Court and the Appeal Court had affirmed the legitimacy and authority of the NCWC as the body duly recognised to steer the affairs of PDP. He said that the courts’ pronouncements on the PDP leadership remained unequivocal, binding, and in full force. “We therefore urge all members of our party and the general public to be guided accordingly and disregard any contrary claims or misleading narratives. Mohammed said it was deeply concerning that certain individuals had continued to take steps to undermine the party’s stability and progress. “We are aware of moves by this group, led by Tanimu Turaki, SAN, to approach courts in Ibadan in a bid to secure an injunction to halt the forthcoming national convention. “This is particularly unfortunate, given that the leadership of the party had, in good faith, extended several invitations and opportunities for reconciliation and dialogue. “Regrettably, these overtures were ignored, as the said faction failed to present itself for meaningful engagement,” he said. Mohammed said that PDP remained committed to unity, internal democracy and the rule of law. He, however, said that the committee would not allow the collective interest of the PDP to be derailed by actions clearly at variance with those principles. “In this regard, we respectfully call on the Honourable Chief Judge of the Federal High Court and the State Chief Judge to take judicial notice of these abuses of court processes and attempts to frustrate the legitimate activities of our party. “We reaffirm our confidence in the judiciary as the last hope of the common man and trust that justice will continue to be served in accordance with the law,” he said. Mohammed assured Nigerians, particularly PDP members, that the party’s national convention scheduled for March 29 and March 30 would proceed as planned. He said that all necessary arrangements had been concluded and that the party was fully prepared to deliver a successful, transparent and credible convention. Mohammed urged PDP members to remain steadfast and law-abiding, assuring them that the leadership would continue to work together in the overall interest of the party.
