By Olasunkanmi Akoni Lagos — A dispatch rider has died after being crushed by a fully loaded diesel tanker along the Apapa–Oshodi Expressway, with the tanker driver fleeing the scene. The accident occurred under the Cele Bridge corridor, prompting a rapid response from Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) operatives who cordoned off the area to prevent further incidents. Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment at LASTMA, Taofiq Adebayo, said the tanker, registered RBC 38 XF, rammed into the motorcycle, trapping the rider underneath. “Sadly, the victim died instantly due to the impact,” he confirmed. LASTMA officers quickly secured the scene, and the tanker was impounded, although the driver had fled. The police took over the scene, recovering the deceased and handing over the tanker and motorcycle for investigation. The body was evacuated to a morgue in Yaba. Reacting to the crash, LASTMA General Manager Olalekan Bakare-Oki expressed condolences to the family and called for a thorough police investigation. The incident has reignited concerns about road safety on Lagos highways and the urgent need for strict adherence to traffic regulations.
