De Zerbi in advanced talk to become Spurs’ manager

By Enitan Abdultawab Tottenham Hotspur have begun discussions with Roberto De Zerbi over the vacant managerial position following the departure of Igor Tudor. Tudor left the club by mutual consent on Sunday after just 44 days in charge, bringing an abrupt end to his short spell as interim boss. His exit came shortly after a 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest, a result that left Spurs hovering just above the relegation zone. Club officials, including chief executive Vinai Venkatesham and sporting director Johan Lange, are now leading the search for a permanent replacement, with De Zerbi emerging as the leading candidate, according to BBC reports. Italian coach, who recently parted ways with Olympique de Marseille, is currently available and has been identified as the club’s primary target. Before Tudor’s exit was officially confirmed, Tottenham had already made informal checks to determine De Zerbi’s interest in the role. Reports indicate that while De Zerbi is open to taking the job, he would prefer to delay any final decision until the end of the season, when the club’s status in the Premier League becomes clear. However, discussions are ongoing to explore the possibility of him stepping in for the remaining fixtures of the campaign. Tottenham are reportedly prepared to offer De Zerbi a long-term contract as part of their efforts to secure stability after a turbulent period. However, despite the club’s interest, sections of the fanbase have expressed reservations about a potential appointment, citing his public support for former Mason Greenwood as a point of concern. Tudor’s departure, though performance-related, was handled with sensitivity following the recent death of his father, with the club allowing him time before formalising the decision. Tottenham now face a critical period as they attempt to avoid relegation while also securing a long-term managerial solution.
