College of Education Warri gets solar-powered borehole

Leading global technology company LG Electronics has reinforced its commitment to sustainable community development with the donation of a solar-powered borehole to the College of Education, Warri, providing students and staff with reliable access to clean and safe water. The project, executed under the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, is aimed at improving water accessibility within the institution while promoting renewable energy solutions. The solar-powered borehole delivers a consistent and environmentally friendly water supply, enhancing hygiene standards and creating a more conducive learning environment for the academic community. Speaking at the handover ceremony, the Provost of the College, Dr. Dickson Onovwakpoma Oyovwi (JP), expressed deep appreciation for the intervention. “This solar-powered borehole project is a significant contribution to our institution. Access to clean water has been a major need for our students and staff, and this donation will greatly improve our daily activities and overall well-being. This water has been sustaining the hostel since its installation,” he said. Dr. Oyovwi emphasized the importance of corporate social responsibility, noting that organizations have a duty to give back to society. He commended LG Electronics for identifying the institution’s needs and supporting education through impactful infrastructure. He also encouraged other corporate bodies to emulate the company’s example in advancing educational development and community wellbeing. Also speaking at the event, the Head of Corporate Marketing, LG Electronics Nigeria, Mr. Paul Mba, highlighted the company’s philosophy of meaningful innovation. “At LG Electronics, we believe that meaningful innovation goes beyond technology; it is about improving the quality of life in the communities where we operate. The donation of this solar-powered borehole reflects our commitment to supporting education and providing sustainable solutions that address real community needs,” he stated. The Secretary General of the Student Union Government, Ms. Testimony, also expressed gratitude, assuring that students would ensure proper maintenance of the facility. “We are very grateful to LG Electronics for this project. Getting clean water has sometimes been difficult for students, but this borehole will make life easier and help us focus better on our studies. This is a project that will benefit many generations of students,” she said. The initiative aligns with LG Electronics’ broader vision of supporting educational institutions and empowering communities through sustainable infrastructure. By utilizing solar energy, the facility operates efficiently with minimal dependence on public power supply, ensuring long-term reliability. Dignitaries present at the commissioning included representatives of LG Electronics and principal officers of the College of Education, Warri, among other stakeholders.
