By Musa Ubandawaki, Sokoto SOKOTO — The All Progressives Congress (APC) has reinforced its national unity and internal democratic processes following the successful conduct of its Sokoto State Congress, where a new set of state executives emerged through a consensus arrangement. The congress, overseen by the State Congress Committee Chairman, Professor Muztaz Aliyu Abubakar, was widely described by party stakeholders as peaceful, transparent, and reflective of the party’s renewed commitment to discipline and cohesion across Nigeria. At the conclusion of the exercise, Alhaji Haruna Sarkin Gobir Adiyya was elected State Chairman, with Alhaji Yahaya Buhari as Deputy Chairman. Other key officers include Barrister Bello Abdullahi as State Secretary, Alhaji Abubakar S. Fada as Assistant Secretary, and Alhaji Muhammad Umar as Public Relations Officer, alongside other members of the State Executive Committee. In his remarks, outgoing State Chairman Hon. Isah Sadeeq Achida thanked party leaders, delegates, and members for their support during his tenure. He described the congress as a defining moment for the APC in Sokoto and across Nigeria, noting that the peaceful consensus process underscored the party’s maturity and shared vision. Achida urged the newly elected executives to strengthen grassroots structures, promote internal democracy, and align the state chapter with the APC’s broader national agenda. He emphasized that unity remains the foundation of electoral success and sustainable governance and called on members to rally behind the new leadership. Newly elected Chairman Alhaji Haruna Sarkin Gobir Adiyya described his emergence as a collective victory for all APC members in Sokoto State, pledging to run an inclusive, transparent, and results-driven administration. He assured that the state chapter would deepen consultations with stakeholders, strengthen party discipline, and mobilize members at all levels in line with the APC’s national vision. Adiyya stressed that the consensus process should be seen as a demonstration of shared purpose and unity, not exclusion, and emphasized the importance of focusing on electoral success and supporting progressive governance at state and federal levels. Observers note that the peaceful conduct of the Sokoto State Congress reflects a growing trend of internal consolidation within the APC, reinforcing the party’s national structure ahead of future electoral cycles. With the new executive in place, the Sokoto chapter is expected to play a strategic role in advancing the APC’s policies and political direction nationwide.
