By Steve Oko, Umuahia Former Minister of State for Science, Technology and Innovation, Chief Henry Ikoh, has declared that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is ready to take over power in Abia State in 2027. Ikoh, who coordinates the Renewed Hope Ambassadors in Abia — a key political structure supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu — spoke on Wednesday after a meeting with local government coordinators of the group in Umuahia. He said LGA coordinators have been tasked with mobilising grassroots support for Tinubu and expressed satisfaction with the peaceful conduct of the party’s ward, local government, and state congresses, describing them as proof of unity and renewed strength within the APC in Abia. “APC has positioned itself to take over the mantle of leadership in Abia from 2027. We are very serious about it,” Ikoh said. “The party has been returned to the people. With the new Electoral Act, there are no special delegates. APC has never been stronger, more united, and ready to re-elect the President and other APC candidates in 2027.” He explained that the party aims to industrialise the state, create wealth, and expand the middle class through people-centred programmes and policies. “We are united and will present a responsible, electable candidate — one who will deliver over 90 per cent of the vote for Mr President in Abia,” he added. Highlighting the achievements of the Tinubu administration, Ikoh noted that economic reforms, including a uniform exchange rate, easing commodity prices, and increased state revenues from fuel subsidy removal, have begun stabilising the economy. He also cited improvements in federal investment in road infrastructure and access to interest-free education loans. On speculation about his governorship ambition, Ikoh said he is under pressure to run but has not made a decision. “For now, my focus is to deliver President Tinubu in 2027,” he said. Other members of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, including Chief Sam Nwogu, Hon. Ikedi Ezekwesiri, and Hon. Eze Okwulehie, expressed commitment to mobilising support for Tinubu across Abia State, particularly in key LGAs and council areas. They emphasised that the South East region would strongly back Tinubu’s bid, citing his fair treatment of the zone, and pledged to counter any political challenges from other regions.
