By Umar Yusuf, Yola The national leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, as the leader of the party in the state following his defection. Fintiri was formally received into the APC on Monday at a grand reception held in Yola, the state capital. Speaking at the event, Vice President Kashim Shettima, who represented President Bola Tinubu, affirmed that the governor automatically assumes leadership of the party in the state, in line with APC policy. “Fintiri is the leader of our party here, even though he is officially joining us today. It is the policy of the party that any governor who joins the APC automatically becomes the party leader in the state,” Shettima said. He described the wave of defections into the APC in Adamawa as a reflection of democratic choice, adding that the party has become a major force in Nigeria’s political landscape. “The APC has become a focal point in Nigerian politics, attracting people from different backgrounds. Our doors remain open to all who wish to join,” he added. Shettima also disclosed that efforts were ongoing to bring former Governor Mohammed Jibrilla Bindow back into the party, even as he welcomed former Senator Abdulaziz Nyako back to the APC. APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, who presented the party flag to Governor Fintiri, commended his decision to join the ruling party, describing it as a bold move. In his remarks, Governor Fintiri praised President Tinubu for his efforts toward economic recovery and pledged his support for the administration. He also assured party members that he would work diligently to ensure the re-election of President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima in 2027.
