— Warns Opposition Attacks on Electoral Act 2026 Undermine Nigerians — Admits Reform Path Tough but Necessary By Johnbosco Agbakwuru, Abuja President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Friday said the All Progressives Congress (APC) was founded as a platform for national transformation aimed at reducing poverty, improving security, and rebuilding key institutions. Speaking at the party’s 4th Elective National Convention at Eagle Square, Abuja, Tinubu stressed that the APC was created not just as a vehicle for electoral victories, but as a movement committed to building a functional and inclusive Nigeria. He said the party was established as “a home for anybody who wants to build a Nigeria where governance works, institutions function, opportunities abound, security reigns, poverty declines, and every Nigerian... can live with dignity and hope.” The President recalled that the party’s formation 13 years ago was driven by a shared resolve among political actors to set aside differences and rescue the country from economic challenges at the time. According to him, the APC remains united by the belief that democracy must deliver for all Nigerians and that leadership should be anchored on vision, discipline, justice, and development. Describing the convention as a defining moment, Tinubu said it provides an opportunity for members to renew their commitment to the party’s founding ideals and strengthen unity under the theme, “Unity in Progress: Consolidating the Renewed Hope Agenda.” He dismissed claims that the ruling party seeks to establish a one-party state, emphasizing the importance of a credible opposition in strengthening democracy. “Democracy thrives on vibrant and healthy competition,” he said, noting that constructive criticism helps refine policies and improve governance. The President also cautioned against persistent attacks by opposition figures on the Electoral Act 2026, describing such actions as a disservice to Nigerians. On economic reforms, Tinubu acknowledged the hardship experienced by citizens but maintained that the government’s policies are necessary for long-term stability and growth. “We knew the road to reform would be tough. Rebuilding Nigeria requires courage, patience, and difficult decisions,” he said. He added that the administration has made progress despite global economic pressures, including the impact of the ongoing tensions involving the United States, Israel, and Iran. Tinubu highlighted achievements in infrastructure, particularly in road construction, stating that the government remains focused on delivering its mandate and laying the foundation for future prosperity.
