By Joseph Erunke Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has said the forthcoming National Convention of the All Progressives Congress, APC, will serve as a strong demonstration of unity, discipline, and collective commitment to Nigeria’s progress. Idris stated this on Monday in Abuja during the inauguration of the Media and Publicity Subcommittee for the 2026 APC National Convention. The minister, who is serving as Co-Chairman of the subcommittee, described the convention as a major milestone for the ruling party as it seeks to deepen internal democracy and reinforce its vision of building a united, prosperous, and progressive Nigeria. According to him, the gathering provides the APC with an opportunity to showcase its cohesion and shared dedication to national development. “The upcoming national convention provides the party with an opportunity to demonstrate unity, discipline, and a shared commitment to national progress,” Idris said. Speaking virtually from the United Kingdom, the minister also highlighted the ongoing reforms being implemented by the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that they are designed to reposition Nigeria for sustainable growth and long-term development. He reaffirmed the commitment of the APC to advancing the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which he said remains central to the government’s development strategy. Idris stressed that in the current fast-paced information environment, effective communication is critical to the success of major political events such as the party’s national convention. “The responsibility entrusted to this committee is both strategic and vital. The success of any major political event depends greatly on how effectively its message is communicated to the public,” he said. The minister explained that the responsibilities of the Media and Publicity Subcommittee extend beyond routine publicity, emphasising the need for accurate information dissemination, transparency, and strong media engagement throughout the convention. He noted that the committee will also project the processes and outcomes of the convention to Nigerians and the international community. Among the committee’s key responsibilities, according to Idris, are content creation, media relations, media planning and buying, coordination with other convention subcommittees on media-related activities, report writing and documentation, media monitoring, and performance evaluation across print and broadcast platforms. He added that the subcommittee would also oversee the coordination and management of all media activities related to the convention. Urging members to approach their assignment with professionalism and creativity, the minister said effective use of available media platforms would ensure broad and positive coverage of the event. “I encourage members to approach this assignment with utmost professionalism, creativity, and a strong sense of duty. By leveraging media platforms within our reach, we must ensure that the convention is widely and positively covered while upholding the highest standards of credibility and integrity,” he said. Idris congratulated members of the subcommittee on their appointment and expressed confidence that their collective expertise would contribute significantly to the successful organisation and communication of the 2026 APC National Convention. He thereafter formally inaugurated the Media and Publicity Subcommittee and wished members success in the discharge of their responsibilities. The 2026 APC National Convention is scheduled to be held from March 25 to March 28.
