..Call for Investigation into SWAT Concerns By Anayo Okoli ENUGU — The Forum of Presidents-General (PGs) of town unions in Aninri Local Government Area of Enugu State has reaffirmed its confidence in Governor Peter Mbah and Aninri Council Chairman, Hon. Ugochukwu Nwanjoku, amid recent protests against the council chairman. At a press briefing in Oduma, the Coordinating President-General of Aninri, Comrade Pius Ani, said the forum’s position was aimed at reaffirming support for the leadership of the state and council while providing a collective perspective on political and security developments in the area. “The governor has demonstrated that he is a leader for all. He encouraged dialogue, not disorder. Anyone with political ambition should pursue it lawfully,” Ani said. The PGs praised Governor Mbah’s administration as transformative and development-driven, highlighting ongoing infrastructural projects across Enugu State. Ani referenced initiatives such as roads, schools, health facilities, electrification projects, and over 2,000 ongoing and completed state-wide projects that are improving rural communities. The forum also reiterated support for Council Chairman Nwanjoku, citing key council projects including community electrification, the construction of a new legislative and administrative secretariat, and the ongoing 50-room hospital. “We urge the governor to continue supporting the council chairman to ensure seamless execution and delivery of people-oriented projects in Aninri,” the forum said. While expressing political support, the PGs raised concerns about the conduct of the Enugu State SWAT unit in certain communities. Ani called for a thorough, transparent, and independent investigation into reported incidents affecting residents, including the death of a community member in custody. “This is not about politics; it is about justice and human dignity. We want the truth. We want accountability,” Ani emphasized. Community leaders, the forum added, are working to maintain peace and lawfulness while seeking resolution through legal and constitutional channels. Comrade Onyeabor Chukwu Christian Azubuike, PG of Amagu Oduma Autonomous Community, described recent protests against Council Chairman Nwanjoku as unnecessary and avoidable, stressing the importance of dialogue and lawful processes in addressing grievances.
