By Charly Agwam The Leader of Bauchi Youth Watch, Khamis Musa Darazo, has condemned alleged attempts to undermine President Bola Tinubu’s administration, describing such actions as self-serving and detrimental to Nigeria’s democratic stability. Darazo, who identified himself as a supporter of President Tinubu, said that any attempt to unseat an elected government through undemocratic means amounts to a betrayal of the mandate freely given by Nigerians through the ballot. Speaking with Vanguard on Friday, he criticised what he described as political manoeuvres aimed at destabilising the government, warning that such actions undermine public trust in democracy. According to him, democracy provides room for dissent and constructive criticism but does not justify efforts to subvert constitutional order. “Democracy allows for criticism and opposition, but it does not permit conspiracies designed to undermine the people’s mandate. Any individual found guilty of plotting against a constitutionally elected government should face the full weight of the law,” Darazo said. He stressed that President Tinubu should be given the political space to implement reforms aimed at stabilising the economy, strengthening institutions and promoting national unity. Darazo noted that premature power struggles distract from governance and weaken citizens’ confidence in democratic processes. He further urged political leaders to prioritise issue-based engagement and support initiatives that promote national development, rather than actions that could deepen political divisions for personal ambition. “The Nigerian people are watching closely. History will judge those who place personal ambition above the collective interest of the nation,” he said. Darazo also called on citizens, particularly youths, to remain vigilant and resist narratives capable of destabilising the country, stressing that sustainable progress can only be achieved through respect for democratic institutions and the rule of law.
