Adelabu presses for improved power supply

By Adeola Badru Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, is set to press for improved electricity supply and stronger operational performance as he undertakes a working visit to the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) in furtherance of the Federal Government’s drive to strengthen power distribution across its franchise area. In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Strategic Communication and Media Relations, Mr. Bolaji Tunji, the visit will centre on engaging the management of IBEDC on the urgent need to enhance power supply, improve service efficiency, strengthen customer relations and boost overall operational performance in Ibadan, Oyo State, as well as across the company’s coverage area. “IBEDC provides electricity distribution services in Oyo, Ogun State, Osun State, Kwara State and parts of Niger State, Ekiti State and Kogi State.” “During the meeting, the Minister is expected to review the company’s current service delivery metrics, loss reduction strategies, metering rollout plans, infrastructure upgrades and response mechanisms to customer complaints,” the statement said. According to Mr. Tunji, the minister will also stress the Federal Government’s commitment to ensuring that distribution companies meet their performance obligations under the sector’s reform framework. “Chief Adelabu has consistently emphasised that improved distribution efficiency remains critical to achieving sustainable power sector reform.” “He is expected to reiterate the Ministry’s readiness to support IBEDC and other distribution companies, while also demanding accountability, transparency and measurable improvement in service delivery to Nigerians.” “The working visit forms part of a broader engagement with electricity distribution companies aimed at ensuring that citizens and businesses enjoy more stable, reliable and affordable power supply,” the statement added.
