By Olayinka Latona The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, has revealed the secret behind his enduring relevance and spiritual vitality, attributing it to his refusal to dwell on past achievements or failures. In a message titled “Forget and Press Forward” published in Open Heavens, the church’s daily devotional authored by the pastor, Adeboye reflected on his longevity in ministry and the source of his continued vigor. “I turn 84 today, and by God’s grace, I am still doing exploits in His kingdom because I have learnt not to hang on to the past, and I rely on His mercies that are new every morning,” he said. The cleric observed that some believers remain trapped in the past, constantly reminiscing about former miracles or achievements, yet display little evidence of active faith today. “They are filled with anger, bitterness, jealousy, and every work of the flesh,” he warned. Drawing a parallel with the biblical figure Joseph, Adeboye noted that clinging to past hurts or grudges prevents believers from experiencing God’s greater plan. “If Joseph had held onto the hurt caused by his brothers, he would have remained imprisoned by hate rather than seeing God’s purpose fulfilled,” he said. He further emphasized that Christians who glory only in past exploits without seeking new anointing risk missing out on fresh blessings. Referencing Lamentations 3:23, Adeboye reminded followers that “God’s mercies are renewed every morning,” urging them to press forward in faith to access increasing goodness and divine favour.
