Access Bank Plc has paid tribute to its late former Group Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Herbert Onyewumbu Wigwe, CFR, two years after his death, describing his absence as deeply felt and his legacy as enduring. The bank made this known in a message posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) platform on Monday. In the statement, Access Bank described Dr. Wigwe as a visionary leader who transformed the institution with courage, clarity, and an unwavering commitment to excellence. “Two years on, the absence of Dr. Herbert Onyewumbu Wigwe, CFR, remains deeply felt,” the bank stated. “A visionary leader, he shaped Access with courage, clarity, and an unwavering commitment to excellence. His legacy lives on in the values we uphold, the standards we protect, and the future we continue to build.” The bank also remembered Dr. Wigwe’s wife, Doreen, and their son, Chizi, noting that their loss remains profound. “Today, we also remember his beloved wife, Doreen, and their son, Chizi. Their loss is profound, and they remain forever in our hearts,” the statement added. Dr. Wigwe, who played a pivotal role in the growth and transformation of Access Bank into a leading financial institution in Africa, is widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s most influential banking executives.
