Abuja airport registers 10,000 Go Cashless cards

The Airport Manager of Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, Mr Ahmed Danjuma, says no fewer than 10,000 “Go Cashless” cards have been registered at the airport since the commencement of the policy’s implementation. Danjuma made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Abuja. He explained that the temporary gridlocks experienced on Monday and in the early hours of Tuesday at the toll gate were as a result of the full implementation of a cashless toll policy nationwide. According to him, though the registration started in Aug. 2025, the majority of the airport users didn’t bother to come for registration on time, and this was in spite of the sensitisation carried out by the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN). ”Since March 1, we have gone cashless in line with the policy of this government to eliminate the collection of cash at toll gates. The move aligns with the Federal Government’s broader reforms. ”The policy aims to enhance transparency and revenue optimisation, which no previous administration fully implemented. ”We have been announcing it before now for airport users to get their FAAN cards so that when you get to the gate, you just tap and the barrier opens. ”Now, if you go to any FAAN gate and you want to pay cash, you will be disappointed because nobody will allow you to pass through.” Meanwhile, some airport users, who spoke with NAN, appreciated the government initiative. They noted that the reform would help improve service delivery and enhance revenue generation for national development. According to them, the reform is capable of repositioning Nigeria’s aviation sector for growth and global competitiveness. They, however, urged the government to channel the fund generated to infrastructural development of the nation’s airports. (NAN)
