2027: Wike’s ally, Boma Iyaye denies governorship ambition

By Daniel Abia A strong political ally of the minister of the federal capital territory, FCT, Barr Nyesom Wike and the executive director of finance and administration, of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Boma Iyaye has denied nursing the ambition of contesting for the Rivers state governorship. Boma, one of the trusted allies of Wike was touted to be the minister’s anointed replacement for the incumbent governor, Siminalayi Fubara who many believe does not stand any chance of returning to the Government House after 2027 due to lose of confidence and trust with the minister. Responding to the rumour of his ambition weekend, Boma in a statement said “My attention has been drawn to reports circulating on social media suggesting that I have declared an ambition for the office of the Governor of Rivers State and have been endorsed as a preferred candidate by the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, CON. “I wish to respectfully clarify that these reports are inaccurate and do not reflect the true position. “At this time, my full attention and commitment remain focused on my responsibilities as the Executive Director, Finance and Administration of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). “I remain fully engaged in the discharge of my duties, working collaboratively with the leadership and stakeholders of the Commission to advance its mandate of sustainable development in the Niger Delta region. “For the avoidance of doubt, I have not made any formal declaration regarding a governorship ambition, nor have I received any endorsement from the Honourable Minister or any other individual as being suggested. “I hold the Honourable Minister in high regard and deeply appreciate his leadership and contributions to public service”. The EDFA urged the public and media practitioners to rely on verified information and to disregard any contrary reports concerning his alleged political ambition. His deniable came hours after the FCT minister, Nyesom Wike said he was yet to endorse any candidate for the next year’s governorship election.
