Chairman pledges sustained unity, performance By Olasunkanmi Akoni LAGOS — Babajide Sanwo-Olu has charged the newly elected executives of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State to strengthen unity and inclusiveness in order to consolidate the party’s gains ahead of the 2027 general elections. The governor gave the charge on Tuesday shortly after the swearing-in of the new State Executive Council at the party’s State Congress held at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena. At the congress, the incumbent chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, was returned unopposed through an affirmation process for a second four-year term alongside other executive members. Also in attendance were Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat; former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Senator Olorunnibe Mamora; former Deputy Governor Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire; and former Senator representing Lagos East, Gbenga Ashafa, among others. In his address, Sanwo-Olu congratulated the re-elected and newly elected officers, urging them to ensure that Lagos remains a model for party organisation and governance. “We have demonstrated unity of purpose in Lagos. The responsibility before the new executives is to take the party to a level where it becomes a national reference point in inclusiveness, fairness and equity,” the governor said. He expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for his leadership, describing him as a guiding figure in the party’s growth and development. Sanwo-Olu emphasised that the executives must deepen internal cohesion, expand the party’s base and uphold its principles as preparations begin for future electoral contests. Ojelabi Pledges Unity In his acceptance remarks, Ojelabi described his re-election as a reflection of unity within the party in Lagos. “With profound gratitude and humility, I stand deeply honoured. This moment is a testament to the unity and commitment of members of our great party,” he said. He commended party leaders and stakeholders for their support and acknowledged the role of various party organs and government officials in sustaining the APC’s structure in the state. Ojelabi also expressed appreciation to the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), led by Pa Tajudeen Olusi, describing it as a body that provides guidance and continuity for the party. He assured members that the new executive council would focus on mobilisation, reconciliation and strategic positioning ahead of the next electoral cycle. “As we celebrate today, we must look ahead. This is the time to work together to ensure that the APC continues to deliver good governance,” he said. The inauguration of the State Executive Council signals the beginning of a new administrative phase for the Lagos APC as it prepares for the 2027 elections.
