By Adeola Badru IBADAN — Ahead of the 2027 general elections, a former Chief of Staff to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, Chief Bisi Ilaka, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC). Ilaka, a chieftain of the PDP in Oyo State, formally communicated his resignation in a letter dated February 10 and addressed to the Chairman of Ward 5, Oyi East Local Government. In the letter titled “Resignation of Party Membership,” Ilaka expressed appreciation to the PDP for the opportunities it gave him to serve at both state and national levels. “It is with utmost humility that I tender my resignation of membership from the PDP,” he wrote. “I am eternally grateful for the opportunities afforded to me by the party and the unalloyed support given to me over the years. Till we meet again.” Ilaka was appointed Chief of Staff to Governor Makinde on May 29, 2019, the governor’s inauguration day. He served in that capacity until July 2021, when he was succeeded by Segun Ogunwuyi. His defection adds to the shifting political alignments in Oyo State as parties begin to position themselves ahead of the next general elections.
