By Olasunkanmi Akoni The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, on Friday, swore in newly elected executive committee members across its local government and ward structures. Recall that the State party had rescheduled the swearing-in from yesterday, following the sudden death of the party’s Assistant Publicity Secretary, Karamo Yesiro. Yesiro died on Wednesday evening, less than 24 hours after he was re-elected as the party’s Assistant Publicity Secretary during the Lagos APC State Congress, held at Mobolaji Johnson Arena, formerly known as Onikan Stadium. Speaking during the inauguration ceremony, held at the APC State Secretariat, Acme, Ogba, Ikeja, Lagos, the state party Chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi, urged the executives to demonstrate diligence and commitment to the ideals of the party. He called on members to be united and shun divisive tendencies ahead of the 2027 general elections. Ojelabi said the inauguration marked a critical step in strengthening the party’s organisational framework ahead of future electoral engagements. According to him, “We found you worthy to be elected to pilot the affairs of the party for the next four years. Your role is critical to the growth and consolidation of the party.” Ojelabi noted that the party’s success in Lagos over the years was largely due to its strong grassroots network and urged the newly sworn-in executives to sustain that tradition. He said, “The responsibility before you is enormous. You must be diligent in the discharge of your duties and remain committed to the ideals of the party.” Ojelabi also stressed the need for unity among party members, urging leaders and stakeholders to avoid actions that could create division within the party. According to him, the executives were elected through a democratic process and must work collectively to strengthen the party’s presence in their respective wards and local government areas. Ojelabi said the executives assumed office at a critical period for the party, noting that their leadership would be vital in consolidating the party’s achievements in the state over the years. He further charged them to work closely with local government party leadership and intensify mobilisation at the grassroots. Ojelabi said, “Work starts immediately. Let the leadership in your local government know you have been sworn in, and work together to strengthen the party’s structure.” The chairman assured the new executives of the party leadership’s and the state government’s support in ensuring the continued growth and success of the party. He also reiterated the party’s commitment to inclusive participation and grassroots development, noting that effective leadership at the ward and local government levels remained crucial to maintaining the APC’s political strength in Lagos State.
