2027: Amaechi not endorsed as ADC South-South consensus presidential candidate – Obidient Elders

By Ochuko Akuopha ASABA — The Delta Obidient Elders’ Council over the weekend dismissed rumours that former Rotimi Amaechi was endorsed as the South-South consensus presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the 2027 election. The council, through a statement by its Chairman, Chief Chris Biose, clarified that circulating claims are false. “There is a video currently circulating on social media, attributed to the Coalition for the Protection of Democracy (COPDEM), criticizing the South-South Zonal Leadership of ADC for holding a meeting at the residence of the Zonal Leader and former John Odigie-Oyegun on Friday, February 27, 2026,” the statement said. According to the council, Mr. Amaechi only presented his presidential ambition to the South-South Zone of ADC during the meeting, outlining reasons he considers himself qualified for the office and seeking the views of regional leaders. While a motion for a unanimous endorsement was reportedly proposed, Chief Odigie-Oyegun, who chaired the meeting, stopped the motion before it could be concluded and thanked Mr. Amaechi for sharing his ambition with the leaders of the zone. On behalf of the Delta Obidient Elders’ Council, Chief Biose urged all Nigerians, including opposition leaders and civil society groups, to cooperate with the ADC in efforts to strengthen governance and address national economic and security challenges.
